Mending Nets

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” ~John 8:44

In keeping with the Spirit and style of the God ordained Prophets of Old, Jesus spoke these words to a society of people whom had forgotten their Godly origins. They had forsaken the heart of God in pursuit of a superficial and merciless religious system which compelled them to persecute the Righteous and reject the very personification of God, who was standing right before them. This vain and godless form of piety had permeated virtually every facet of their culture, from the disinterested vendor on the street, to the highest religious court in their land, The Sanhedrin.

It is critical for us to consider the shocking revelations of these words of Christ. This once spiritually victorious People had been reduced to the objects of The Lord’s harshest rebuke. Notice what Christ says. They had become murderers and liars. Murder and falsehood had possessed their lives, and ultimately their culture.

This transformation began in their hearts and minds. Notice Jesus speaks of “lusts.” He says they do the “lusts” of the devil. But Jesus goes even further. He states that when a person’s actions consistently emanate from their lusts, they can be called the children of the devil. The devil was the first to indulge in these lusts, and he is the father of them.

They had become anti-Christs. They were against God. They were plotting the elimination of Jesus, and they were opposing His word and ways.

There are forces in America who are plotting the elimination of Jesus from our culture. They too persecute the Righteous and speak lies…oh my goodness the lies!

I am deeply concerned for our Country. It is obvious America is being pulled in two directions. As a Culture and a Republic, we will eventually go one way or the other.

I know several Christian Brothers and Sisters who speak as if America has already made her choice. They believe we are no longer a Godly Nation, and the battle is lost. Perhaps they do it out of a desire for the intensity of the struggle to cease. Or, perhaps out of a sense of futility and mourning. Or, maybe they do it out of a longing for Heaven. But, I disagree. It couldn’t be farther from the truth. There are still tens of millions of Gods true People in this Country who can be used of God to turn this Nation around!

There is an epic battle raging right now for the Soul of our Nation. The Battle is not over.

Our Christianity is not separate from our duty as Citizens. For believers, Faith and Politics are not mutually exclusive. The ministry of the Church and activity in the Public Arena are not to be comprehended as foreign visitors one to another. Our Forefathers and Founding Fathers certainly didn’t believe they were.

God and Christ commanded us to “occupy until I come.” The tide can be turned. We don’t need to stand idly by and watch our Culture and our Politics be overtaken by the lusts of the devil.

As for me, I will continue to pray for my Neighbors and for our America. I will cry out to God with passionate tears on behalf of our People. I will continue to speak the Truth in Love. I will recommit and double my efforts to put action to my prayers. I will speak on current events from a Biblical perspective. I will vote (exercise my God-given right to choose Representatives, Justices, and Executives). And, I will refuse to vote for candidates who promote murder (eg., abortion, harvesting baby parts for profit, and who say babies in the womb have no rights). Nor will I vote for those who consistently, pathologically speak lies.
